The Yahagi was a Japaneese Agano class light cruiser. Commissioned on December 29th, 1943, she had a displacement of 6,650 tons. She was sunk on April 7th, 1945 by U.S. air and sea forces.
The Yakov Sverdlov was a Russian Novik class destroyer. First commissioned in 1913 as the Novik. Name was changed in 1923 to Yakov Sverdlov. She had a displacement of 1,200 tons. On August 28, 1941,During Operation Barbarossa, she hit a mine near Cape Juminda and sank.
The Yak-1 was a fighter manufactured by Yakovlev in the Soviet Union. Primarily used by the Soviet Air Force. Introduced in 1940. Approximately 8,700 built.

The Yakumo was a Japanese armored cruiser built by Stettiner Vulcan AG in Germany. She was the only cruiser in the Japanese Imperial Navy built by Germany. Commissioned on June 20, 1900, she had a displacement of 10,000 tons. She was scrapped on April 1, 1947 in the Hitachi ship building yard.
The Yamashiro was a Fuso class battleship. Commissioned on March 1, 1917, she had a displacement of 40,000 tons. She was sunk in the Surigo Strait on October 25, 1944 by U.S. naval forces.
The Yamato was a Japanese Yamato class battleship. Commissioned on December 16, 1941, she had a displacement of 64,000 tons. She was sunk April 7, 1945 north of Okinawa by U.S. carrier-based bombers and torpedo bombers.
The third ship to bear this name, the Yorktown was the lead ship of the Yorktown class aircraft carriers. Commissioned on September 30, 1937, she had a displacement of 20,000 tons. She was sunk June 7, 1942 at the Battle of Midway.
The fourth ship to bear this name, the Yorktown was an Essex class aircraft carrier. Commissioned on April 15, 1943, she had a displacement of 27,500 tons. After the war, she participated in many missions, including the VietNam war; she was designated as the recovery ship for the Apollo 8 mission; and she was used in the movie Tora! Tora! Tora!, which recreated the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Today, she is a national historic landmark and can be found at Patriot’s Point, Charleston, South Carolina.
The Yubari was a Japanese light cruiser. Commissioned on July 23, 1923, she had a displacement of 3,000 tons. She was sunk April 27, 1944 off of Palau by the American submarine Bluegill.
The Yukikaze was a Japanese Kagero class light cruiser. Commissioned on January 20, 1940, she had a displacement of 2,500 tons. She was the only member of her class that was not sunk in the war. She was transferred to the People’s Republic of China on July 6, 1947 and eventually scrapped by the Chinese in 1970.
The Yura was a Japanese Nagara class light cruiser. Commissioned on March 20, 1923, she had a displacement of 5,000 tons. After repeated attacks by American aircraft, she was scuttled by the Japanese off of Savo Island on October 25, 1942.
