This tank had a fully rotating turret and was equipped with a 47mm gun cannon. There were different models of the tank produced including the B-1, B-2, and the B-3. In all, there were around 200 of these produced. Due to their increased firepower, they would become known as tank destroyers.
T-15 Tank
The T-15 was similar to the T-13s in almost every way, except instead of a cannon, this tank’s main weapon was a machine gun. It was the Belgian version of the British Commercial Light Tank Vickers Carden-Loyd 4 ton, armed with 13.2 mm French Hotchkiss MG mounted in a turret. The tank crew usually consisted of 2 men. The Belgian army had around 40 of these assigned to their ranks.
The Taiho was a Japanese aircraft carrier. Commissioned March 7, 1944, she had a displacement of 29,300 tons. On June 19, 1944, she was sunk during the Battle of the Phillipines Sea after a single torpedo hit from the USS Albacore.
The Taiyo was a Japanese aircraft carrier. Commissioned September 2, 1941, she had a displacement of 17,800 tons. She was sunk August 18, 1944 off Cape Bolinao, Luzon by a torpedo from the USS Rasher.
The Takao was a Japanese heavy cruiser of the class that bears the same name. Commissioned May 31, 1932, she had a displacement of 13,160 tons. On September 5, 1945, she was captured by the British and was towed to the Straits of Malacca, where she was used as a target ship for the HMS Newfoundland. She was sunk October 19, 1946.
The Tama was a Japanese Kuma class light cruiser. Commissioned January 29, 1921, she had a displacement of 5,100 tons. She was sunk by the USS Jallao northeast of Luzon in October 1944.
The Tannenberg was a German mine layer. Commissioned September 2, 1939, she had a displacement of 1,100 tons. On September 7, 1941 she ran into a Swedish mine barrier near Öland and sunk. Her wreck was scrapped in 1952.
Taranto
The Taranto was an Italian light cruiser. Commissioned in 1925, she had a displacement of 4,400 tons. While originally the SMH Strassburg of the Imperial German Navy, after World War I, she was ceded to Italy as a war prize. She served in the Regia Marina until she was sunk by Allied aircraft in 1944.
The Tartar was a British Tribal class destroyer. Commissioned March 10, 1939, she had a displacement of 2,000 tons. She was placed in reserve in 1946 before being sold to BISCO on January 6, 1948.
The Tatsuta was a Japanese Tenryu class light cruiser. Commissioned May 31, 1919, she had a displacement of 4,350 tons. On March 11, 1944, while escorting reinforcements to Saipan, she was attacked and sunk by the U.S. submarine Sand Lance.
The Tattnall was an American Wickes class destroyer. Commissioned June 26, 1919, she had a displacement of 1,050 tons. She was sold for scrap October 17, 1946.
The Taylor was an American Fletcher class destroyer. Commissioned August 28, 1942, she had a displacement of 2,050 tons. She was transferred to Italy in July 1969 after a long and distinguished career. In January 1971, she was cannibalized for parts to maintain her sister ships serving in the Italian navy.
The Tennessee was the third ship in the US Navy bearing this name. She was the lead battleship of the class bearing the same name. Commissioned June 3, 1920, she had a displacement of 33,200 tons. After the war, she was placed in reserve for several years before being sold for scrap on July 10, 1959.
The Tenryu was a Japanese light cruiser, the lead ship in the class bearing the same name. Commissioned November 20, 1919, she had a displacement of 4,350 tons. On December 19, 1942, she was struck by a torpedo from the USS Albacore and sunk.
The Teruzuki was a Japanese Akizuki class destroyer. Commissioned June 11, 1942, she had a displacement of 2,700 tons. On December 12, 1942, while leading a transport run to Guadalcanal, she was torpedoed and sunk by PT-37 and PT-40.
The Terror was a British Erebus class monitor. Commissioned August 6, 1916, she had a displacement of 8,000 tons. After sustaining heavy damage from German stuka dive bombers, she sunk off of Darnah on February 22, 1941.
The Teviot was a South African Loch class frigate. Commissioned June 10, 1945, she had a displacement of 1,370 tons. She was scrapped in March 1955.
The Texas was an American New York class battleship. Commissioned March 12, 1914, she had a displacement of 27,000 tons. Post-war, she was put into reserve and became the first museum ship in the United States on April 21, 1948. She is docked at the San Jacinto Battlegrounds near Houston, Texas.
The Thane was a British Ruler class escort aircraft carrier originally built by Seattle-Tacoma Ship Building in the United States. Commissioned November 19, 1943, she had a displacement of 11,400 tons. She was transferred November 19, 1943 to the United Kingdom under the Lend-Lease Agreement. She was returned to the United Sates on May 12, 1945 and subsequently scrapped.
Themistocles
The Themistocles was a Greek Hunt class destroyer built in Scotland. Commissioned June 16, 1942, she had a displacement of 1,050 tons. She was transferred to the Royal Helenic Navy in March 1943, where she served until 1959. She was subsequently scrapped in Britain in 1960.
The Theodor Riedel was a German Type 1934A destroyer. Commissioned July 2, 1937, she had a displacement of 3,100 tons. After successive ownerships by Britain and France, she was scrapped in 1958.
The Thor was a German auxiliary cruiser. Commissioned March 15, 1940, she had a displacement of 9,200 tons. On October 9, 1942, she was accidentally set ablaze by burning debris from another ship which was moored alongside her. She was wrecked beyond repair and was abandoned.
The Ticonderoga was an American Essex class carrier. Commissioned May 8, 1944, she had a displacement of 27,000 tons. After the war, she participated in many Pacific operations, including the Viet Nam war, until she was decommissioned in 1973 and sold for scrap in 1975.
The Tiger was a German 1924 Raubtier class torpedo boat. Commissioned January 15, 1939, she had a displacement of 1,300 tons. She was scrapped in January, 1959.
The Tirpitz was a German Bismarck class battleship. Commissioned February 25, 1941, she had a displacement of 42,900 tons. She was the largest battleship ever built in Europe. She was attacked by RAF bombers and sunk on November 12, 1944.
The Togo was a German night fighter direction vessel. Commissioned August 13, 1938, she had a displacement of 12,700 tons. She survived the war and was transferred to Britain, where she became a merchant vessel and was renamed the MS Topeka. Her long career as a merchant ship quickly came to a halt when she ran aground in Mexico on November 21, 1984, killing two men.
The Tokiwa was a Japanese Asama class cruiser. Commissioned May 18, 1899, she had a displacement of 9,700 tons. On August 9, 1945, she was sunk by Allied air attacks in northern Honshu.
The Tone was a Japanese heavy cruiser and was the lead ship in the class that bears the same name. Commissioned November 30, 1938, she had a displacement of 15,200 tons. During a large air raid against Kure on July 24, 1945, she was hit with three bombs which caused her to settle at the bottom of the bay.
The Tourville was a Free French Duquesne class heavy cruiser. Commissioned December 1, 1928, she had a displacement of 10,000 tons. She had a long career after the war until she was condemned in March 1962.
The Tracker was a British Bogue class escort aircraft carrier built by Seattle-Tacoma Ship Building in the United States. Commissioned January 31, 1943, she had a displacement of 11,400 tons. In early 1943 she was transferred to the Royal Navy, who gave her the name HMS Tracker. She was returned to the U.S. Navy in November 1945, then sold in November 1946 to Agrentina, where she became a merchant ship. She was scrapped in 1964.
The Transylvania was a British armed merchant cruiser. Commissioned October 5, 1939, she had a displacement of 16,900 tons. On August 10, 1940, she was sunk by U-56 about 40 nautical miles northwest of Malinhead, Donegal.
Transvaal, HMSAS
The Transvaal was a South African Loch class frigate. Commissioned May 21, 1945, she had a displacement of 1,435 tons. She was decommissioned August 14, 1964 and was eventually sunk as an artificial reef in False Bay.
Trento
The Trento was an Italian heavy cruiser of the class bearing the same name. Commissioned in 1929, she had a displacement of 10,510 tons. She sank on June 15, 1942 after being torpedoed twice, with the fatal blow coming from the British submarine HMS Umbra. The Trento still lies at the bottom of the Ionian Sea.
Trieste
The Trieste was an Italian Trento class heavy cruiser. Commissioned in 1928, she had a displacement of 10,510 tons. On April 10, 1943, after being struck by several bombs dropped by B24s, she sank in port at La Maddalena, Sardinia.
The Trinidad was a British Fiji class cruiser. Commissioned October 14, 1941, she had a displacement of 8,000 tons. After sustaining heavy damage from German stuka dive bombers, she was scuttled on May 15, 1942.
The Tromp was a Dutch ship, the lead cruiser of the class of the same name. Commissioned August 18, 1938, she had a displacement of 4,000 tons. After the war, she was used as a training ship, was decommissioned in 1955 and was scrapped in 1959.
The Trouncer was a British Bogue class escort carrier, originally named the USS Perdido. She was assigned to the United Kingdom under the Lend-Lease Act on June 23, 1943 and was renamed HMS Trouncer. Commissioned January 31, 1944, she had a displacement of 11,400 tons. She was returned to the United States Navy on April 12, 1946 and was sold into merchant service, then eventually sold for scrap in 1973.

The Tuscaloosa was an American New Orleans class heavy cruiser. Commissioned August 17, 1934, she had a displacement of 9,950 tons. She was placed out of commission on February 14, 1946. She was sold for scrap June 25, 1959.
The Tunsberg Castle was a Norwegian Castle class corvet. Commissioned April 17, 1944, she had a displacement of 1,060 tons. She was sunk December 12, 1944 after striking a mine.
