The Sakawa was a  Japanese Agano class light cruiser.  Commissioned November 30, 1944, she had a displacement of 6,650 tons.  After the war, she was ceded to the United States Navy and was sunk July 22, 1946 during atomic bomb air burst detonation tests.

The San Giorgio was an Italian heavy cruiser and the head ship of the class bearing the same name.  Commissioned July 1, 1910, she had a displacement of 10,167 tons.  She was scuttled January 22, 1941 at Tobruk to prevent her capture by the Allies.

  Sao Paulo

The San Paulo was a Brazilian Minas Gerais class battleship built in England by Vickers for the Brazilian Navy.  Commissioned July 12, 1910, she had a displacement of 19,200 tons.   Post-war, the ship remained a training vessel until August 1951, when she was sold to the British Iron & Steel Corporation.  She sank on November 6, 1951 during a storm near Azores.

The Schlesien was a German Deutschland class of pre-dreadnought battleship.  Commissioned May 5, 1908, she had a displacement of 14,218 tons.   On May 3, 1945, she struck a mine and was beached in shallow water at Zinnowitz, outside Swinemunde.  Between 1949 and 1956, the wreck was demolished and scrapped.

The Schleswig-Holstein was a German Deutschland class of pre-dreadnought battleship.  Commissioned July 6, 1908, she had a displacement of 14,218 tons.   She is thought to have fired the first shots of WWII by firing at the Polish base at Westerplatte on September 1, 1939.  She sank on December 19, 1944 in Gdynia after being hit by bombs from British planes and catching fire.  After WWII, she was raised by the Soviet Union and commissioned under her original name.  She was eventually scuttled on Osmussaar Island in 1948 and finally scrapped in 1959.

The Scylla was a British Dido class cruiser.  Commissioned June 12, 1942, she had a displacement of 5,600 tons.   On June 23, 1944, she was badly damaged by a mine and declared a total loss; however, she was not disposed of until 1950, when she was broken up.

The Searcher was a British Attacker class escort carrier originally built in Seattle in the United States, then tranferred to England under the Lend-Lease Act.  Commissioned April 3, 1943, she had a displacement of 11,400 tons.  She was returned to the United States Navy on November 9, 1945, and after a long career as a merchant ship, was scrapped in Taiwan on April 1, 1976.

  Sexton Artillery Vehicle

Sexton was a self-propelled artillery vehicle built by Montreal Locomotive works in Canada.  Mainly developed for the British Army, it was also used by several Allied countries.  Weighing around 25 tons, its main armament was the Ordnance QF 25 pounder, although it also had 2x 7.7mm Bren light machine guns.  The Sextons were mainly used as supporting fire and had an active part in the D-Day invasion. Produced from 1943 to 1945, there were around 2,000 built.  Sextons generally had a crew of 6 and had a range of 200 km (125 miles) with top speeds of 40 km/h (25 mph).

The Shah was a British Ruler class escort aircraft carrier.  Originally the USS Jamaica, she was transferred to the United Kingdom September 27, 1943 under the Lend-Lease Act.  She had a displacement of 11,400 tons.  She was returned to the United States on September 6, 1945, was sold into merchant service June 20, 1947 and was scrapped 1966.

The Shinano was a  Japanese aircraft carrier.  Commissioned November 19, 1944, she had a displacement of 64,800 tons.  On November 29, 1944, while en route between Yokosuka and Kure Naval Base to complete her outfitting, she was sunk by the American submarine USS Archer-Fish, ten days after her commissioning.  To date, she is the largest warship to be sunk by a submarine.

The Shinyo was a  Japanese escort carrier, formerly the German oceanliner Scharnhorst.  Commissioned November 15, 1943, she had a displacement of 17,500 tons.  On November 17, 1944, while escorting a convoy bound for Singapore, she was sunk by the American submarine USS Spadefish.

The Shokaku was a  Japanese aircraft carrier.  Commissioned August 8, 1941, she had a displacement of 25,675 tons.  On June 19, 1944, she was struck by numerous torpodeos from the  US submarine Cavalla and sunk during the Battle of the Phillipine Sea.

It had a 10 round internal box magazine that was individually loaded or on 10 round strip clips. Its weight is 3.86 kg (8 ½ lbs.). With over 15,000,000 produced worldwide, the SKS had many variants and operators.

The Slazak was a Polish Hunt class destroyer.  Commissioned April 17, 1942, she had a displacement of 1,050 tons.   Originally laid down for the British Navy in 1940, after the war she was transferred back to the British Royal Navy, then sold to India in the 1950s and was eventually scrapped in 1979.

The S35 was a French cavalry tank produced from 1935 to 1940 by SOMUA in France.  It weighed 19.5 tons with a top speed of 40 km/h ( mi) and an operational range of 230 km ( mi).  Its primary armament was a 47 mm SA 35 gun and its secondary a 7.5 mm Mitrailleuse Mle.  It was a highly successful medium tank that was limited to a production of 430 due to the June 1940 invasion by Germany.

The 1903 was a bolt –action rifle manufactured by Springfield Armories in the United States. It was mass produced, but unlike most firearms, it had few variations due to the success of the base model. It was used by U.S. Army personnel throughout WW II. The better known version of the 1903 was the M10903 sniper rifle. The sniper version had the iron-sights removed and replaced with a Weaver  telescopic sight. The M1903 used a .30-06 cartridge that was fed through a five round internal box. It weighed 3.86kg (8 ½ lbs.).

 

  St. Albans

The St. Albans was a Norwegian Town class destroyer, originally the USS Thomas.  Commissioned April 14, 1941, she had a displacement of  1,190 tons.  She was later transferred to the British Royal Navy as the HMS St. Albans, but spent most of the war in the exiled Norwegian Navy.  On July 16, 1944, she wsa transferred to the Soviet Navy and was renamed Dostoyny.  She was returned to the British on February 28, 1949, where she was later broken up for scrap in April 1949.

The Strasbourg was a French Dunkerque class battleship.  Commissioned February 1939, she had a displacement of 26,500 tons.  She was attacked by the British at Mers el Kebir, but managed to escape back to Toulon where she remained until being scuttled in 1942 to prevent her being taken over by Germany.  She was re-floated by the Italian Navy in 1943, but she was sunk by American bombers in 1944.  She was raised, but not restored, after the war and was scrapped in 1955.

The Sydney was an Australian modified Leander class light cruiser.  Commissioned September 4, 1945, she had a displacement of 6,980 tons. She was destroyed in a gun battle with the German raider Kormoran on November 19, 1941, and was sunk in Shark Bay off the coast of Western Australia.
