The FT-17 was a French light tank manufactured by Renault in France.  It had one of the most revolutionary designs in history in that it was the first tank with a fully rotating turret, its engine in the bank and driver in the front.  This design was repeated in most tank designs since and caused the FT-17 to often be described as the “world’s first modern tank”.   The FT-17 had a long service history that spanned 1917 to 1945; it saw action in over eight world conflicts.  Weighing 6.5 tons, it had a top speed of 7 km/h (4 mi) and an operational range of 65 km (40 mi).  Its primary armament was a 37 mm gun or a 7.92 mm machine gun.  There were approximately 1,600 built.
